Panthers Start Fast in Victory at Connecticut College

Fourth-ranked Middlebury netted the game's first five goals and never trailed, posting a 12-2 road triumph at Connecticut College (1-2, 0-2) on Saturday. The Panthers (3-0, 2-0) have a quick turnaround, hosting St. Lawrence for their home opener Monday at 5:00 p.m.

Emma McDonagh netted quick back-to-back markers at 26:27 and 24:20 for the guests and then set up the next two Panther tallies to put the Panthers in full control. Emily Barnard tallied her second of the contest on a feed from Kate Zecca, extending Middlebury's lead to 5-0 just past the midway point of the half. After a goal by Connecticut College, Georgia Carroll and McDonagh added scores in the final two minutes, giving the Panthers a 7-1 cushion at the half.

The Panthers collected the first five goals of the second frame, with Kirsten Murphy scoring 22:48 on the clock for the first of those markers. Murphy set up Barnard for her third goal of the game 1:42 later, and an unassisted tally by Henley Hall extended the lead to 10-1. Erin Nicholas and Murphy added goals in the final 10 minutes, before Jamie Navoni found the back of the net for the Camels with 1:55 left to close out the scoring.

Murphy finished with two goals and four assists to lead the way for Middlebury, which outshot the Camels by a 33-15 margin and had a 26-16 advantage in ground balls. Barnard and McDonagh each netted a hat trick, while McDonagh also provided two assists. Defensively, Alex White scooped up six ground balls and caused five turnovers, while Evie Keating caused four turnovers and gathered four ground balls. In goal for the Panthers, Julia Keith made nine saves for the victory

Navoni and Clara Bisson each scored for Connecticut College, while Mackenzie Axelson picked up three ground balls and was among four Camels to cause two turnovers. Caitlin Mahoney contributed two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Meghan Mullin made 14 stops between the pipes.
