The Middlebury women's squash team, seeded third and ranked 15th, finished in third place overall via a narrow 5-4 victory against fourth-seeded and 16th-ranked Amherst (10-6) in the 2018 NESCAC Tournament hosted by Hamilton. With the win, the Panthers improve to 10-6 and return to action on Friday when they take on Georgetown at 5:00 p.m. in a match at Navy.

Amherst got on the scoreboard first with a three-game win at #3. The Panthers took a 2-1 lead when Lucy Bostwick defeated Kimberly Krayacich in the second spot (14-12, 11-6, 11-2), followed by a four-game victory by Virginia Schaus over Madison Chen at #6 (11-9, 12-10, 9-11, 11-8). The Mammoths evened the match at 2-2 via a five-game victory at the bottom of the lineup.

The Panthers rattled off three-straight victories to secure the match. Mira Chugh fought back from a 2-1 deficit for a five-game victory over Pierson Klein in the eighth position (11-7, 4-11, 8-11, 11-8, 14-12), while Beatrijs Kuijpers eased past Haley McAtee at #1 (11-5, 11-7, 11-7). Emily Beinkampen clinched the match for the Panthers with an 11-8, 11-4, 11-6 triumph against Katy Sabina Correia in the seventh spot of the ladder.

Amherst grabbed the last two matches to finish at #3 and #5 for the final 5-4 score.
