The #13/top-seeded Middlebury women's squash team posted sweeps in Friday's first seven matches en route to an 8-1 triumph over #20/eighth-seeded Denison in the College Squash Association (CSA) Kurtz Cup Quarterfinals in Philadelphia.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Izzy Ronda (11-3, 11-2, 11-5) and Lucy Ronda (11-1, 11-6, 11-2) pushed the Panthers to a 2-0 lead with their victories at #2 and #8, respectively.
- Lillian Showalter breezed past her opponent in the middle of the ladder with game scores of 11-5, 11-5 and 11-3 over Maddie Ruggie, while Sabrina Schwarz put Middlebury on the brink with an 11-2, 11-6, 11-6 triumph against Helena Fournaris in the third slot.
- The Panthers kept the momentum. Sophie Calise clinched the match via a 3-0 victory over Nicole Smith in the ninth spot (11-7, 11-6, 11-6). Mariana Reedich pushed the Middlebury advantage to 6-0 with a sweep (11-6, 11-3, 11-7) of Da'Nerah Chisholm.
- Madeline Schwarz concluded the opening run with a 3-0 win in the sixth slot, defeating Lane Harding (11-5, 11-5, 11-3).Â
- The Big Red tallied its lone point with a three-game victory at the top of the ladder.
- Caroline Didden concluded the scoring, securing an 11-5, 11-4, 11-4 win at #7 for the final 8-1 score.Â
NOTES
- Madeline Schwarz secured her 10th win this winter. She becomes the eighth Panther this winter to post double-digit triumphs.
- The programs squared off for the second time, with both matchups happening in the CSA Team Championships. Middlebury tallied an 8-1 victory in the 2023 Walker Cup.
The Panthers advance to the semifinals, taking on #16/fourth-seeded Williams on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. The Ephs come off a 9-0 sweep of #17/fifth-seeded Bowdoin in the quarterfinals.
