The Middlebury women's squash team fell to #14 Virginia by a 7-2 score on Saturday in the Kurtz Cup consolation semifinal at the CSA Women's Squash National Team Championship. The three-day event is being hosted by Harvard in the Murr Center. The 15th-ranked Panthers (11-10) return to action Sunday at 1:00 p.m. in the 15th/16th-place match against #16 Amherst.
The Cavaliers grabbed the first point with a three-game win in the third spot of the ladder. Middlebury tied the match at 1-1 when Natasha Lowitt posted a four-game victory at #9 (11-7, 4-11, 13-11, 14-12).
Virginia rattled off six-consecutive victories at #6, #5, #2, #8, #4 and #7 for a 7-1 lead. A trio of those matches were decided in three games, two more in four games and the match at #8 went five games.
Beatrijs Kuijpers completed the scoring with a four-game victory at the #1 spot for the Panthers over Carey Danforth (11-9, 7-11, 11-4, 11-6) for the final 7-2 tally.
