The Middlebury women's team scored twice in each of the first two periods, as the Panthers posted a 4-1 victory Tuesday over visiting Morrisville State in the initial meeting between the two programs. Seventh-ranked Middlebury (6-3-1) travels to UMass Boston Friday for a 4:00 p.m. start, while the Mustangs (8-5-2) host Castleton Wednesday at 3:00 p.m.

The Panthers got off to a fast start, opening the scoring 2:05 into the first period. Ellie Barney created a turnover in the Morrisville State zone, with Madie Leidt collecting the puck and elevating a shot over Mustang goalie Karoline Arvik. The hosts doubled the lead with 12:30 on the clock, as Anna Zumwinkle took a cross-ice pass from Elizabeth Wulf and wristed a shot from the top of the left circle for a power-play tally.

Middlebury took advantage of another power play just 37 seconds into the middle stanza, as Maddie Winslow swept in a rebound after a one-timer from Leidt was stopped by Arvik. The Panthers made it a 4-0 contest with 5:58 left in the period when Janka Hlinka redirected a shot from the point by Clare Tipler. Morrisville State had its best chance in the closing minutes, when Mackenzie Lombardi skated into the Middlebury zone on a two-on-one with Megan Kirk. Lombardi took the shot from the right circle, but had her bid denied by Panther goalie Anna Goldstein.

In the final period, the Mustangs accounted for the only goal, getting on the scoreboard with just 3.8 seconds remaining. Ciara Lark took a shot from the point that Goldstein turned away, but Jessica Ujcik collected the puck on the right side and netted her second marker of the season.

Goldstein finished with 13 saves to earn the win for the Panthers, while Arvik made 35. The hosts held a 39-14 advantage in shots and went 2-4 on the power play, while erasing both Morrisville State chances.
