The Panther swimming and diving teams concluded their dual meet portion of the schedule with a tri-meet against Hamilton and Williams in Williamstown, Massachusetts. The Middlebury women defeated the Continentals by a score of 209.5-84.5, but fell to the sixth-ranked Ephs 177-114, while the men best Hamilton 206-78 and were defeated by #17 Williams 189-94. Middlebury returns to action Friday and Saturday when it hosts the annual Middlebury Invitational. Action will begin on Friday at 5:30 p.m. while Saturday's events are scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m.
In the men's action, Will Pannos tallied an event victory in the 100 butterfly, touching the wall in 54.15. Teammate Nick Handali was second in the event with a mark of 54.21.
Additional runner-up efforts came from Connor McCormick in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.30) and Morgan Matsuda during the 500 freestyle (4:58.34).
During the diving competition, Mike Chirico earned both the 1-meter (287.25 points) and 3-meter event crowns (284.32 points), while Will Greene was second in the 1-meter (266.70 points).
During the women's competition, the Panthers swam to a pair of individual victories as well as a relay win. Frances VanderMeer won the 50 butterfly, touching the wall with a time of 26.43. Sarah McEachern claimed the 100 individual medley for the Panthers in 1:05.99.
The final event of the day saw the 200 free relay team of VanderMeer, Maya Gomez, Erin Kelly and Stephanie Andrews stop the clock with a winning time of 1:40.37.
Other runner-up efforts came from VanderMeer in the 50 backstroke (27.54), Kelly Delane during the 50 fly (28.15), as well as Gomez in both the 50 breaststroke (31.73) and the 100 breaststroke (1:09.54).
On the diving boards, Elissa DeNunzio dove to second-place efforts in the 1-meter (255.30 points) and 3-meter events (246.97 points), respectively.
