The Middlebury field hockey team (5-2) scored the game's final four goals Wednesday on its way to a 6-2 win over Skidmore at Kohn Field. The Panthers return to NESCAC play when they host Colby at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, while the Thoroughbreds (5-3) travel to Union on the same day.

Middlebury wasted little time getting on the board, scoring 2:47 into the first half. Emma Johns sent a ball from the back-right post to Molly Freeman, who one-timed it into the back of the cage. The Panthers doubled the advantage at the 29:00 mark, when Audrey Quirk inserted the ball to Grace Jennings, who stopped it before Lauren Schweppe blasted a shot past Skidmore goalkeeper Zoe McGuire.

The Thoroughbreds cut the deficit in half with 2:47 left in the opening frame. Meaghan Lynch's initial effort was blocked, before Gabby Hyman settled the rebound and found the back of the cage.

Out of the break, Skidmore's Sarah Winters finished off a scramble in front of the Panther goal to tie the game 2-2 at the 43:48 mark. Middlebury capitalized on an extra-player opportunity 5:14 later, when Julia Richards tipped in a shot by Danielle Brown. The Panthers increased the lead to 4-2 at the 51:43 mark on a breakaway attempt from Jennings. Middlebury tacked on two more goals in the second frame from Freeman and Marissa Baker for a 6-2 advantage.

The visitors were awarded a penalty stroke with just under five minutes remaining, but Middlebury goalie Megan Collins, who came on just seconds before, denied the opportunity.

Abby Furdak earned the win facing three shots in 65:27 of action, while Collins played a scoreless 4:33. McGuire finished with eight saves, as Middlebury held a 20-6 advantage in shots.
