Panther Men Stay Perfect With Wins Over Rensselaer, Skidmore

The fourth-ranked Panther men's tennis team played its first two road matches of the spring on Sunday, picking up a victory over Rensselaer by a 9-0 score, followed by a 7-2 win over #26 Skidmore. The morning's match against Rensselaer was played at Tri-City Fitness in Latham, New York, while the contest against the Thoroughbreds took place in the Wilton YMCA in Wilton, New York. The Panthers (4-0) return to action during their spring break trip with eight matches in Texas beginning with a contest on March 25 against Texas-Dallas.

In the match against Renssealer (4-4), the doubles tandem of Lubomir Cuba and William de Quant started things off notching the team's first point with an 8-5 victory at No. 1 over Sebastian Castillo-Sanchez and Zack Ebenfeld. The No. 3 flight of Allen Jackson and Timo van der Geest won 8-5 over Sundar Devkottai and Winston Yu, while the second doubles team of Hamid Derbani and Kyle Schlanger edged Tristan Wise and Xavier Oshinowo, 8-5.

In singles action, de Quant claimed the team's fourth point at No. 1 with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Castillo-Sanchez, while Jackson clinched the match at No. 4 with a 6-2, 6-1 win against Ebenfeld. Alex Vanezis picked up a win at No. 5 by 6-4, 6-3 scores against Yu, while van der Geest needed a super breaker to get by Wise in the third spot (6-7 (4), 6-3, 10-2). The Panthers' eighth and ninth points came from Weston Brach at No. 6 (6-3, 6-2) over Suryansh Patel and Schlanger in the second slot against Oshinowo (6-3, 4-6, 10-6).

Later in the day against Skidmore (4-5), the Panthers swept the doubles matches as the team of Schlanger and Derbani won by an 8-4 score over Lucas Pickering and Steven Koulouris in the No. 2 flight. At No. 1, Cuba and de Quant remained perfect for the day with an 8-3 win against Kai Yuen Leung, while Jackson and van der Geest posted a 9-8 (4) triumph at No. 3 versus Travis Leaf and Nils Akesson.

The Panthers continued that success in singles play, securing the first three matches to finish. Cuba was victorious at No. 1 (6-4, 6-4) over Leung, while de Quant clinched the match and the teams fifth point with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Koulouris in the second spot. Schlanger made the score 6-0 via a 7-5, 6-3 victory in the No. 3 slot against Pickering.

Skidmore got on the scoreboard when John Wynne posted a 6-3, 5-7, 10-8 win against van der Geest in the fourth spot. Jackson tallied Middlebury's seventh point with a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 5 over Ted Berkowitz, while Leaf grabbed the second point for the Thoroughbreds with a hard-fought 6-2, 4-6, 11-9 triumph against Vanezis in the sixth slot.
