Women's Swimming & Diving Opens NCAA Championships

Day one of competition is complete with the Panther women competing in three events at the 2017 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships. The four-day event is taking place at the Conroe ISD Natatorium in Shenandoah, Texas and is being hosted by the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference and the City of Shenandoah.

In the morning preliminary swim, the 200-yard medley relay team of Frances VanderMeer, Celia Ripple, Maya Gomez and Morgan Burke touched the wall in a time of 1:45.31 for 17th place. The effort just missed the evening's finals as the top-16 quartets advanced out of the morning session.

Competing as individuals on the opening day were Isabel Wyer and Gomez. Wyer finished 19th in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:58.89, while Gomez was 54th in the 50-yard freestyle (24.37).

The second day of competition is scheduled to begin Thursday with preliminaries at 11:00 a.m., while the finals are slated for 7:00 p.m.
