Panthers Fall to Virginia at CSA Team Nationals

Middlebury fell to #12 Virginia by a 6-3 score on Saturday in the Kurtz Cup consolation semifinal at the CSA Women's Squash National Team Championship. The event is being hosted by Princeton at the Jadwin Center. The 16th-ranked Panthers (9-11) return to action Sunday at 1:30 p.m. for the 15th/16th-place match against #15 Bates.

Middlebury grabbed the first point with a four-game victory from Natasha Lowitt at #9 (11-8, 11-7, 10-12, 11-8), but the Cavaliers (15-6) rattled off three-consecutive victories at #3, #6 and #5, respectively.

The Panthers cut the deficit to one at 3-2 when Caroline Jahrling battled back from a 2-1 disadvantage for a five-game victory in the eighth spot (10-12, 11-6, 9-11, 11-7, 11-9). For the second time in the match, Virginia posted three-straight victories at #2, #4 and #7 for a 6-2 lead.

Beatrijs Kuijpers completed the scoring with a five-game victory at the #1 spot for the Panthers (3-11, 11-9, 11-8, 6-11, 11-6) for the final 6-3 tally.
