The seventh-ranked Middlebury women's hockey team capped off the first-semester portion of its schedule with a 6-0 triumph over visiting Castleton (4-6-1), as goalie Anna Goldstein made nine saves for her first collegiate victory. The Panthers (4-3-0) are idle until 2018, when they resume play on January 5 and 6 with a two-game NESCAC series at Amherst.

In the first period, the Panthers held a territorial edge that resulted in a pair of goals 36 seconds apart. The first tally came with 9:50 on the clock, as Haley LaFontaine's wrist shot from the left point found its way through traffic for her first score of the season. Middlebury quickly added a second goal when Jessica Young cut toward the slot from the right circle, firing a shot past Spartan goalie Alexis Kalm for her team-leading sixth marker of the year.

The hosts tacked on two more tallies in the middle stanza, doubling its advantage. Elizabeth Wulf started the play on the third goal, winning the puck in the corner before feeding a short pass to Katarina Shuchuk. The Panther then set up Sidney Portner near the top of the crease, who lifted a shot into the upper-right corner of the net. Middlebury made it 4-0 with 3:46 left in the period when Maddie Winslow buried a shot on a pass from Katherine Jackson, who was set up behind the net.

In the final period, Winslow collected her second goal of the game, directing a feed from Wulf through Kalm with 13:34 showing on the clock. Young finished the scoring with 3:14 remaining, sending a low shot from the left wing inside the right post.

Young and Winslow each netted a pair of goals, while Wulf dished out three assists and Jackson had a pair.

Kalm finished with 38 saves for the Spartans, as the hosts held a decisive 44-9 edge in shots. Middlebury was 0-3 on the power play, while Castleton did not have any opportunities.
