Women's Squash Starts Season With Pair of Sweeps

The Middlebury women's squash team began its 2017-18 schedule with two 9-0 victories in which it didn't surrender a game on Saturday in matches played in Hamilton's Little Squash Center. The 15th-ranked Panthers started the day with a 9-0 win over the host Continentals, followed by a blanking of 22nd-ranked St. Lawrence. The Panthers (2-0) return to the court next Saturday for their home opener against 10th-ranked Dartmouth at 6:00 p.m.

In the victory over Hamilton (0-4), Natalie Madden started things off with her first collegiate win when Caitlin Stern was forced to retire at No. 3 after Madden won the opening game 11-2. Caroline Jahrling made it 2-0 with an 11-5, 11-5, 11-4 win against Molly Pivirotto at the bottom of the ladder, while Mira Chugh posted an 11-6, 11-5, 11-7 victory over Marina Hartnick at No. 6.

Additional wins for the Panthers came from Lily Bogle at No. 8 (11-1, 11-5, 11-3) over Lindsay Jadow, while Virginia Schaus tallied her first victory as a Panther with an 11-6, 11-4, 11-7 triumph at No. 5 against Katherine Bauer. Anne Glassie made the score 6-0 via an 11-6, 11-5, 11-8 win over Grace Munschauer at No. 2, while Lucy Bostwick cruised atop the lineup (11-4, 11-5, 11-6) against Rafiatou Ouro-Aguy.

Rounding out the winners for the Panthers were Emily Beinkampen with her initial collegiate victory over Liesl Guenther (11-4, 11-8, 11-2), while Natasha Lowitt completed the sweep with a win by scores of 11-5, 11-6, 11-9 against Danielle Reisley in the seventh spot.

Against St. Lawrence (0-1), Glassie eased past Alex Infante at No. 2 (11-5, 11-2, 11-8), Beinkampen edged Katie Smith in the fourth spot (11-3, 11-7, 11-9) and Bogle cruised by scores of 11-3, 11-2, 11-4 against Alexandra Brazo at No. 8.

Chugh made the score 4-0 with an 11-0, 11-4, 11-4 win against Cindy Yao in the sixth slot, while Jarhling won by tallies of 11-1, 11-4, 11-4 against Katie Walsh at the bottom of the ladder. Lowitt defeated Alexandra Limas at No. 7 (11-5, 11-5, 11-3), while Madden gave the Panthers a 7-0 lead with an 11-4, 11-4, 11-2 win against Losangela Batista in the third spot.  

Wins by Bostwick at No. 1 over Gabrielle Ahrens (11-5, 11-9, 11-1) and Schaus in the fifth slot (11-5, 11-5, 11-4) against Cristina de la Vega concluded the perfect day for the Panthers.
