#3 Panthers Defeat Husson As Leonard Climbs Career Lists

Box Score

The Middlebury field hockey team increased its winning streak to seven-straight victories with a 7-0 victory Sunday over Husson on Kohn Field. During the win, Annie Leonard had a goal and an assist, moving her into second place in Middlebury's career laurels with 67 goals, surpassing Heidi Howard's '99 mark of 66. Her three points vaulted her into third place with 156 career points (67-22-156), climbing past Howard's total of 155. The third-ranked Panthers (11-2) return to NESCAC play on Saturday with a 12:00 p.m. start at Bates, while Husson (8-4) travels to Bowdoin on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.

The hosts opened the scoring 1:13 into the contest when Marissa Baker tapped in a cross from Leonard. A little under 10 minutes later, Leonard dribbled to her right, blasting a shot that found its way just inside the near post for her 10th goal of the season. Grace Jennings gave the Panthers a 3-0 edge at the 13:37 mark following a scramble for her fourth tally of the fall.

The lead grew to 6-0 for the hosts when Julia Richards scored three times in a span of 6:40. Diana Milne tallied a pair of assists on Richards' scores.

Husson's best scoring chance happened in the 26th minute when a shot by Mikayla Toth went wide as part of a penalty corner, as the Panthers took a six-goal lead into the halftime break.

Out of the intermission, Middlebury scored just under 14 minutes into the stanza when Amanda Bozorgi tallied her first career goal. Audrey Quirk inserted the ball on a penalty corner to Bozorgi, who lofted the ball over the shoulder of the Eagle goalie at the 48:54 mark.

Panther goalie Abby Furdak earned the win without having to make a save in the first half, while Megan Collins played the second stanza. Husson goalie Anne Marie Provencal finished with 17 stops for the visitors. Middlebury held a 30-1 advantage in shots and an 11-1 edge in penalty corners. Dating back to the win on October 7 at Tufts, the Panther defensive unit has not allowed a goal over the last 245:31 of game action.
