The Panther swimming and diving teams wrapped up their first weekend of the second semester with a home meet against Bates. The women defeated the visiting Bobcats by a 160-140 score, while the men were defeated 161.5-126.5. Middlebury returns to action Saturday when it travels to Union for a meet starting at 2:00 p.m.
During women's action, the 200 medley relay consisting of Isabel Wyer, Celia Ripple, Maya Gomez and Morgan Burke started the meet with a winning time of 1:49.55.
Six different Panther individuals earned an event victory during Sunday's action. Angela Riggins won the 1,650 free with a time of 18:35.15, Wyer won the 200 free (1:55.90), Ripple claimed the 100 breaststroke win (1:06.72), while Nora O'Leary touched the wall first in the 200 breaststroke (2:25.86). The other two wins were tallied by Alaina Pribis in the 500 free (5:21.77) and Frances VanderMeer during the 100 fly (59.70).
Additional points were garnered via a multitude of second-place finishes on the women's side. Harper Baldwin was the runner-up in the 1,650 free (18:44.48), while O'Leary ended up second in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.74). Other second-place showings came from Ripple in the 200 breaststroke (2:26.42), VanderMeer during the 100 back (1:00.69) and Burke during both the 50 free (24.85) and 100 free (54.14). Key points were scored via runner-up swims by Wyer in the 100 back (1:44.40) and Jessica Lipton during the 500 free (5:25.50).
In the final event of the day, the 400 free relay quartet of Burke, Wyer, Kristin Karpowicz and Stephanie Andrews stopped the clock with the second-fastest mark of 3:38.36.
For the men, Michael McGean claimed a pair of event victories for the hosts. He led the field to the wall in both the 500 free (4:48.02) and the 1,650 free (16:36.74). The other two event titles were tallied by Noel Antonisse during the 50 free (22.55), while Connor McCormick posted the quickest time in the 400 individual medley (4:15.51).
Runner-up efforts in the pool came from the 200 medley relay of Justin Cho, Stefan Pla, Jack Dowling and Antonisse, who finished second with a time of 1:52.93. Individual second-place finishes were tallied by McCormick in the 200 free (1:45.75), Brendan Leech in both the 100 back (54.65) and the 200 back (1:58.62), while Dowling also had a pair of runner-up showings in the 100 fly (54.10) and the 200 fly (1:59.89).
