Box Score The Middlebury women's lacrosse team advanced to the NCAA Regionals after a 12-7 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson University at Florham in a second-round game played on Kohn Field. The Panthers (18-1), who will likely host the regional, will face St. John Fisher on Saturday, May 21, while Amherst will meet Gettysburg in the other match-up. The winners meet on Sunday, May 22 with a trip to the final four on the line. The Devils had their 11-game winning streak end as they finish season with a record of 14-7.
The Panthers opened the scoring 33 seconds into the game when Chrissy Ritter was awarded a free-position shot, but opted to feed Laurel Pascal on the left of the cage for the goal. Middlebury increased the lead to 2-0 eight minutes later when Pascal dodged three defenders and tucked a shot into the upper-left corner. Susanna Baker pushed the difference to three goals and Megan Griffin tacked on another for the hosts.
Emma McDonagh gave the Panthers a 5-0 cushion with an unassisted goal, while Pascal netted her third of the game with a low shot on a free-position attempt. Hollis Perticone scored back-to-back goals to make it an 8-0 game, while Georgia Carroll closed out the scoring in the first half with 5:03 remaining.
Middlebury scored three times in the first 7:02 of the second half to claim a 12-0 advantage. Griffin scored the first on an assist from Ritter, while Pascal converted again on a free-position attempt. Ritter capped the scoring for the Panthers after taking a pass from behind the net from Alli Sciarretta. With the 12-goal cushion, the Panthers were able to rest their starters for much of the second half.
The Devils got on the scoreboard with 18:15 left in the half when Frances Maggio scored on a free-position attempt. After a goal by Brienna Reasoner, FDU-Florham took advantage from the eight-meter line scoring four-straight goals on free-position shots. Reasoner finished the scoring with 49 seconds left as the Devils netted the last seven goals to make the final score 12-7.
Pascal led all players with four goals, while Griffin tallied twice and set up another. Perticone added two goals and Ritter scored once and assisted on two others. Delaina Smith had a solid game on defense for the Panthers with two caused turnovers and a team-best four ground balls. Katie Mandigo made five saves in the first half for Middlebury, while Kate Furber and Madeleine Kinker each saw time in the final 30 minutes.
Reasoner and Damon each scored twice for the Devils, while Reasoner also added six ground balls and four caused turnovers. Goalie Megan Nemeth made seven saves as Middlebury held a 25-16 edge in shots.
