Middlebury advanced to the NCAA Men's Tennis Regional Final with a 5-0 victory over Wilkes in a match played on the Proctor Tennis Courts at Middlebury College. The third-ranked Panthers (17-2) will play the 20th-ranked Skidmore in the final on Sunday afternoon at 12:00 p.m., while the Colonels finish their season at 23-4.
Middlebury jumped out to a 3-0 advantage at the conclusion of doubles. The Panther duo of William de Quant and Kyle Schlanger posted an 8-1 victory at #3 over Max Appello and Michael Kranz. A few minutes later, Middlebury doubled its lead when Noah Farrell and Ari Smolyar tallied an 8-2 victory over Courtney Murphy and Adam Lefkandinos in the second flight. The #1 duo of Palmer Campbell and Hamid Derbani completed the sweep with an 8-6 triumph over Courtney Murphy and Adam Lefkandinos with an 8-4 triumph over Dominic Parfianowicz and Jacob Parfianowicz.
In singles matches, the Panthers were victorious at #6 and #4 without dropping a game. In the sixth spot, Timo van der Geest defeated Troy Haas (6-0, 6-0, while Derbani clinched the match over Lefkandinos (6-0, 6-0).
The remaining four matches went unfinished with the Panthers up in all of them. Farrell led 4-3 against Murphy in the top spot, while Smolyar grabbed the first set (6-0) and was up 2-1 in the second set on Appello. At #3, de Quant was a game away from taking the first set (5-2), while Schlanger won the first nine games he played against Kranz (6-0, 3-0).
