The Middlebury men's golf team opened up its spring season at the two-day Manhattanville/New York University Spring Invitational with a team score of 319, sitting in a tie for fifth place following day one. Skidmore leads the 11-team field after the opening day with a score of 299, while Trinity (312), Stevens (316), St, Lawrence (318), RPI (319) and with the Panthers round out the top five. The two-day tournament is being played at the par 71, 6,547-yard Forest Hill Field Club in Bloomfield, New Jersey. Action continues on Sunday with the final 18 holes beginning at 8:00 a.m.
Bennett Doherty fired a 75 in the opening round to tie for fourth in the field of 63 golfers. Philippe Morin carded a 78 to tie for 15th, while Eduardo Ramos shot an 82 to tie for 38th. Reid Buzby and Graham Kenter each finished with an 84 to tie for 49th.
Middlebury's Joe Ko, who is playing as an individual, is tied for sixth after shooting a 76 through 18 holes.
