Middlebury Pulls Away From Endicott for Road Victory

With the score tied at 3-3 after one quarter, Middlebury outscored host Endicott 5-2 in the second stanza and slowly pulled away in the final two quarters for a 16-10 road win at Hempstead Stadium. The seventh-ranked Panthers (2-0) return to NESCAC action when they host top-ranked Tufts on Saturday, while the Gulls (1-3) travel to Salve Regina on the same day.

Tied following the first quarter, Middlebury received goals from five different scorers in the second to claim an 8-5 cushion headed into the break. Kyle Soroka and Jon Broome opened up the second with back-to-back goals at 13:29 and 8:21, respectively, before Colin Bannon answered for Endicott with his lone tally of the night at 5:44 to make it a 5-4 contest.

Jack Gould and Tim Giarrusso followed with consecutive goals (4:27, 2:56) and Jack Cleary capped the scoring for the Panthers with 24 seconds remaining in the half to manufacture their three-point gap on the scoreboard.

Middlebury went on to pull away in the second half as the guests outscored Endicott by an identical 8-5 score for the win.

Sean Carroll finished with a career-high five goals to go along with an assist for Middlebury, while Broome added two tallies and a team-best four assists. Giarrusso and Soroka each found the back of the Gull net twice. John Jackson finished with eight groundballs and won 13-28 faceoffs. Will Ernst (2-0) earned the win in net for Middlebury, making seven saves.

Will Jennings led the Gulls offensively in the loss with four goals and one assist. Mitchell Tapley also contributed a hat-trick, while Bannon added one goal and a team-high three helpers. Will Farfala and Peter Field Jr. rounded out the attack with solo tallies. Endicott goalie Cameron Bell stopped a game-high 15 shots in the loss.

Middlebury held a 49-32 advantage in shots and a narrow 42-39 edge in ground balls. The Panthers were 17-21 in clear attempts, while holding the Gulls to just 10-18. Endicott was 4-5 in man-up opportunities and Middlebury went 1-2.
