Panthers Victorious in NESCAC Third-Place Match Over Amherst

The Middlebury women's squash team, seeded third and ranked 15th, finished in third place overall with a 6-3 victory over fourth-seeded and 16th-ranked Amherst in the 2016 NESCAC Tournament hosted by Trinity. With the win, the Panthers improved to 8-7 and will return to action at the CSA Team Championships at Yale.

The Purple & White recorded wins in the top-two spots of the ladder, both coming in four games. Three-game victories were tallied by the Panther trio of Beatrijs Kuijpers at #3 (11-3- 11-8, 11-6), Zoe Carey in the fourth spot (13-11, 11-3, 12-10) and Alexa Comai at #5 (11-9, 12-10, 11-3). Amherst picked up its third point of the match with a win at #6.

The bottom of the ladder came up big for the Panthers with three wins in spots seven through nine. Lucy Bostwick needed just three games at #7 for the victory (11-7, 11-6, 11-9), while Audrey Ellen at #8 (9-11, 12-10, 11-9, 11-3) and Hope Matthews in the ninth slot (11-6, 10-12, 11-6, 11-9) both mustered wins in four games.
