Michael McGean picked up his second event win in as many nights during Sunday's 1,650 freestyle, as Middlebury finished seventh overall during the 2016 NESCAC Men's Swimming & Diving Championship. The three-day event was held inside the Samuelson-Muir Pool on the campus of Williams College, as the Panthers accumulated 801.5 points, while the host Ephs grabbed the team title with 1,789.5.
In the evening's first event, McGean claimed the individual crown during the 1,650 free after winning Saturday's 1,000 free in a school-record time. His 1,650 free on Sunday was an NCAA 'B' cut time of 16:02.45, winning the longest event of the meet by 3.72 seconds. McGean swam to his third top-four finish in as many tries over his career, as the distance freestyle specialist touched the wall third in 2015 and fourth in 2014. He also touched the wall with the sixth-quickest time in Friday's 500 free final.
A few events later during the 200 breaststroke, Stephan Koenigsberger raced to fifth place with a time of 2:06.24.
During the 3-meter diving competition, Will Greene matched his performance in Friday's 1-meter event by finishing fifth with 416.20 points.
The 4x400 free relay quartet of Paul Lagasse, Jack McLaughlin, Alex Smith and Koenigsberger capped off the championship's final event with a seventh-place time of 3:07.23.
The Panthers will have a little less than a month off from competition before members of the team who qualify will compete at the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving National Championships in at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina from March 16-19.
