A school-record run and numerous top-eight finishes highlighted the two-day Division III New England Men's Track & Field Championship hosted by MIT, as the Panthers finished in a tie for sixth place. Middlebury posted 43 team points to tie Southern Maine out of 26 teams scoring, as MIT claimed the team title with 138 points ahead of runner-up Williams with 132. All-New England Division III honors are awarded to the top-eight placers in each event. The Panthers return to the track next Friday when they take part in the Open New England Championships hosted by Boston University.
James Mulliken lowered the program record in the 600-meter run, stopping the clock in 1:22.36 to place fifth. Other individual top-eight finishes on the track were recorded by Kevin Serrao in the 1,000-meter run (fourth, 2:31.37), while Alex Nichols was fourth in the 400-meter dash (50.18), just ahead of teammate Jimmy Martinez in fifth (50.38).
In the longest event on the track, Sebastian Matt crossed the line with a mark of 15:15.60 in the 5,000-meter run, good for eighth place.
The distance medley relay team of Tyler Farrell, Sam Cartwright, Lucas Carpinello and Jonathan Perlman claimed the runner-up spot with a time of 10:28.77. A few events earlier, the 4x400 relay of Brandon Cushman, Mulliken, Martinez and Nichols finished third in 3:22.95.
Off the track, a pair of Panthers earned All-New England accolades. John Natalone was third in the pole vault (14'11"), while Deklan Robinson tied for fifth in the high jump (6'2.25").
