Men's Hockey Sets School Mark With Seventh Tie of the Season

Box Score

Middlebury went to overtime for the 10th time this season, settling for a school-record seventh tie of the year in a 1-1 contest with Hamilton (13-7-3, 8-6-3). The Panthers (6-10-7, 5-5-7) will wrap up their regular season on Sunday with a 4:00 p.m. game against Amherst, while Hamilton visits Williams for a 3:00 p.m. face-off.

Hamilton's only goal came 8:51 into the first period on the power play. A shot from the left point by Conor Lamberti was tipped in front by Brandon Willett and over the shoulder of Panther netminder Liam Moorfield-Yee. The marker was the eighth of the year for Willett, giving the Continentals the early advantage.

Middlebury tied the game just two minutes later at the 10:51 mark on the fourth of the year from Ronald Fishman. After taking a pass from Travis Stephens, Fishman snapped home a wrister through traffic from the top of the right face-off circle.

Neither team found the back of the net in the second period, though Hamilton's Rory Gagnon saw his shot hit the right post 15:01 into the session.

Action picked up in the third period with end-to-end action. Lamberti made a great long pass to Kenny Matheson at the 4:30 mark, but Moorfield-Yee stopped the breakaway as well as the follow-up attempt. Following the second save, the Panthers were in transition as Zach Haggerty had an open look from the left side but his shot went wide.

Evan Neugold had a good look for the Panthers at the 7:01 mark, but his backhander was stopped by Hamilton netminder Evan Buitenhuis from the slot after a failed clear. The Continentals nearly ended the game in the final minute with a two-on-one break, but Scott Vazquez missed wide with 40 seconds left after a nice dish from Truman Landowski.

In the extra session, Moorfield-Yee came up big on Jon Carkeek before Buitenhuis denied Mark McLellan with a glove save on the other end midway through the period. Hamilton had a chance late, but Moorfield-Yee stopped Robbie Murden on the left wing and then denied a last-second shot after a face-off at the buzzer.

Hamilton finished the game with a 38-21 shots advantage, with 20 saves from Buitenhuis. Moorfield-Yee was solid in net for the Panthers, finishing with 37 stops.
