Women's Hockey Blanks Castleton to End Semester

Sixth-ranked Middlebury scored two second-period goals on its way to a 2-0 win over Castleton (3-7) on Saturday afternoon at Spartan Arena. The Panthers (5-2) are idle until they host Elmira at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, January 2. The Spartans return to action on January 7-8 when they host the Rutland Herald Invitational.

After a scoreless first period, Carly Watson opened the scoring for the Panthers at the 9:19 mark of the second period. After taking a pass from Anna Zumwinkle, Watson blasted home a shot from the point for a 1-0 lead.

The Panthers doubled their lead late in the period with just 25 seconds remaining. Kelly Sherman scored on the power play, earning her second goal of the season. Watson started the play, firing a shot from the point that Sherman tipped into the back of the net.

Middlebury finished the game with a 35-16 shots advantage. Julia Neuburger made 16 saves in goal to earn the win, while Alexis Kalm made 33 stops for Castleton.
