The Panther swimming and diving teams capped off the first semester by traveling to a dual meet on Saturday at Springfield. The men cruised by a 150-81 score for their first win of the season, while the women edged the Pride, 132-111. The Panthers take a break for the holidays before returning to action on Saturday, January 7, when they host Colby for a dual meet starting at 1:00 p.m.
On the men's side, the team tallied eight wins in the day's 13 events. The 200-yard medley relay team of Justin Cho, Robert Cheng, Jack Dowling and Brendan Leech opened the meet with a victorious time of 1:40.37. In the final event of the day, the quartet of Nick Handali, Michael McGean, Connor McCormick and Dowling posted a winning time of 1:30.79 in the 200-free relay.
Four Panthers posted individual event triumphs in the pool. McCormick claimed the 200 free (1:46.77), David Keyes touched the wall first the 100 free (50.16), McGean led the field during the 500 free (4:48.65), while Morgan Matsuda won the 200 individual medley (2:03.88).
On the diving boards, Mike Chirico won both the 1-meter (297.60 points) and the 3-meter events (264.97 points), respectively.
In the women's competition, the Panthers recorded six event victories. The 200-yard medley relay of Frances VanderMeer, Celia Ripple, Maya Gomez and Morgan Burke started the meet with a winning mark of 1:51.25. In the day's final event, the 200-yard free relay of VanderMeer, Kristin Karpowicz, Harper Baldwin and Stephanie Andrews stopped the clock in 1:41.67.
A quartet of Panther women picked up individual wins. Jessica Lipton outswam the field in the 1,000 free (11:10.05), Gomez claimed the 50 free (25.30), Claire Treesh earned the 100 back victory (1:03.43), while Alaina Pribis swam to the 500 free win (5:21.98).
