The Panther swimming and diving teams opened up their respective 2016-17 seasons on the road with a meet at Connecticut College. The Middlebury women fell to the Camels by a 173-121 tally, while the men were defeated, 191-97.
Celia Ripple led the women with a pair of individual victories. She took home the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:06.96. Later in the meet, Ripple won the 200 individual medley in 2:16.13, just ahead of runner-up and teammate, Grace Stimson (2:16.43). Another individual win in the pool came from Frances VanderMeer, with a winning time of 1:00.50 during the 100 butterfly.
On the diving board, the Panthers earned a pair of victories. Kacey Hertan recorded a win during the 1-meter event with 228.37 points, while Elissa DeNunzio claimed the 3-meter title (209.17).
For the men, Michael McGean recorded two victories in the longest freestyle events. He stopped the clock with a winning time of 4:45.65 in the 500 free, while leading the field to the wall in the 1,000 free with a mark of 9:49.99.
Mike Chirico claimed the 1-meter diving event with 262.65 points, while Will Greene racked up 274.50 points en route to the 3-meter event crown.
The Panthers return to the pool on Sunday with a meet at Tufts beginning at 11:00 a.m.
