Box Score A goal by Katherine Jackson at 15:30 of the first period proved to be all Middlebury needed on Friday evening, as the seventh-ranked Panthers (10-3-3, 6-0-3) edged host Hamilton (9-5-2, 4-3-2) by a 1-0 score in the opener of a weekend NESCAC series at Russell Sage Rink. The two teams complete the two-game set on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
The lone goal of the contest came after a flurry in front of the Continental net.
Shanna Hickman took a pair of shots from close range that Hamilton goaltender Sam Walther stopped. The second rebound wound up on the stick of Jackson in the high slot, and she put in the net for her third goal of the season. Assists on the game-winning play were credited to
Rachael St. Clair and Hickman.
The Panthers held a decided 23-11 advantage in shots for the game. Walther finished with 22 saves, while
Julia Neuburger stopped all 11 Continental shots for her second shutout this winter.
Middlebury was 0-2 on the powerplay, while Hamilton didn't convert on its lone extra-skater opportunity.
