The Middlebury women's squash team, ranked 15th in the latest national poll, fell Saturday afternoon to 11th-ranked Williams on the road by a 7-2 score. The Panthers (6-4) have a week off from competition before returning to the court next Saturday with matches against #4 Yale and #10 Dartmouth as part of the Yale Round Robin.
The match was much closer than the final score indicated, as the Ephs (9-5) took a 4-0 lead with narrow victories at #9, #6, #8 and #3. Middlebury got on the board when Alexa Comai posted a three-game victory that required extra points in multiple games by scores of 14-12, 14-12 and 11-9 against Williams' Esther Baek in the fifth slot. The Ephs recorded the team's fifth point with a win in the seventh spot.
The other Panther point was tallied by Zoe Carey in four games at #4. Carey and Williams' Ananya Mahalingam-Dhingra split the first two games, but Carey posted victories by 11-9 and 11-3 tallies in games three and four during the win. The Ephs recorded their sixth and seventh points at the top of the lineup for the final 7-2 decision.
