Women's Hockey Suffers Road Loss at Top-Ranked Plattsburgh

Box Score

The Middlebury women's hockey team suffered a 3-0 loss at top-ranked Plattsburgh State (13-0) on Tuesday night. The Cardinals added an empty-net goal to seal the victory in the finals seconds over seventh-ranked Panthers (5-3-3). Middlebury returns to action on Friday when it hosts Utica at 4:00 p.m.

Melissa Sheeran converted on a rebound of an initial Erin Brand slap shot from the point to give Plattsburgh State a 1-0 advantage 1:07 into the second period.

Brand would be on the receiving end of another primary assist to give Plattsburgh a 2-0 edge at 11:27 of the same period. Brand took a slap shot from the point that bounced off Panther goaltender Julia Neuburger over her shoulder and into the crease where Kayla Meneghin knocked it in.

Meneghin scored her second of the game coming via the empty netter with 10 seconds left in regulation after Giovanna Senese's shot hit the post.

Cardinal goaltender Camille Leonard finished with a 16-save shutout for her seventh clean sheet of the winter. Neuburger earned 28 saves on 30 shots for the Panthers.
