Day One Complete at NCAA Men's Golf Championship

The Middlebury men's golf team sits in 23rd place among 41 teams competing at the 2015 NCAA Championship. The Panthers shot a 304 on day one, taking on the West Course, a 6,710-yard par 72 challenge. Methodist and Redlands lead all teams with a 284 through 18 holes Action is taking place at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Leading the squad on day one of competition were Eric Laorr and Fitz Bowen in a 30th-place tie. Both Panthers shot a one-over-par 73 through 18 holes of play.

Laorr birdied two of three holes on the front nine to shoot an even-par 36. He dropped one-under par with a birdie on 12 before a double bogey on the par-5 16th hole left him with a 73 on the day.

Bowen birdied the opening hole of his day before a pair of bogeys on the front nine left him with a 37. He opened the back nine with another birdie, but another bogey on the par-4 14th gave him a 73.

Charlie Garcia shot a 78 for the Panthers, struggling on the front nine. He birdied the par-3 third hole, but suffered a costly triple-bogey on the par-4 fourth to finish with a 40. Three bogeys and a birdie on 11 completed his back nine.

John Louie and Bennett Doherty were next for Middlebury, both coming in with an 80. Doherty shot a 38 on the front nine, parring six of eight holes. Louie came in with a 38 on the back nine, earning a birdie on the par-4 17th hole.

Middlebury returns to action on Wednesday morning when it will play the East Course.
