The sixth-ranked Middlebury men's tennis team remained perfect at 3-0 in NESCAC play and improved to 12-2 in dual matches with an 8-1 NESCAC victory Wednesday over 14th-ranked Williams in a match played inside Duke Nelson Recreation Center. The Panthers remain at home for a 1:00 p.m. match Friday against #23 Tufts.
Middlebury secured a 3-0 lead after doubles' play. The Panther tandem of Chris Frost and William de Quant secured the first point against the Ephs with an 8-2 victory over Sachin Raghavan and Brian Grodecki at #3. In the second spot, Ari Smolyar and Noah Farrell, ranked eighth regionally, gave the Panthers their second point with an 8-5 win over Jose Raventos and Rohan Shastri, while the team of Palmer Campbell and Peter Heidrich, the region's third-ranked duo, posted an 8-5 triumph in the top flight over Jordan Sadowsky and Adam Schidlovsky.
In singles play, the Panthers were victorious in five of the six matches. Smolyar, the region's top-ranked player, ran his record to 23-2 this season as an individual with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Raventos at #1, while Farrell clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Schidlovsky in the second spot.
In the fourth flight, Jackson Frons tallied a 7-5, 4-6, 10-4 win over Conrad Harron, while the Ephs picked up their lone point of the match as Shastri battled back from a set down at #3, posting a 4-6, 7-5, 10-4 victory over Campbell.
Timo van der Geest picked up his fourth-straight win with a 6-3, 6-4 decision at #6 over Raghavan, while de Quant gave Middlebury its eighth team point via a 4-6, 6-0, 10-6 win against Grodecki.
