Box Score Two members of the sixth-ranked Middlebury Panthers hit the century club, as Jon Broome notched his 100th career goal, while head coach Dave Campbell collected his 100th win at Middlebury as the Panthers cruised to a 16-8 victory over Springfield. The Panthers (10-2) jumped out to a 7-0 lead and never looked back, securing the non-league victory at Youngman Field at Alumni Stadium. Both teams return to conference action on the road as Springfield (4-7) heads to Emerson, while Middlebury heads to Maine to take on Bates who recently upset top-ranked Tufts. Campbell now owns a 100-46 record at Middlebury in nine seasons.
Broome wasted little time to reach the century mark, netting his 100th just 28 seconds into the game. Broome gave out assists on Middlebury's next three goals, including Sean Carroll's man-up tally to close out the first quarter with a 4-0 advantage.
After another man-up goal by the Panthers, Cedric Rhodes netted two of his career-high four goals to close out the first half with a 7-0 lead. Rhodes' second goal was a tough-angle tally that was set-up by a cross-cage feed from Kyle Soroka with 1:10 left to play in the half.
In the third quarter, both squads alternated three goals apiece, before Rhodes made it an 11-3 game, 13 seconds after a Joel Blockowicz goal at the 1:59 mark.
During a two-man advantage early in the fourth quarter, Springfield's Kevin Sainte put a doorstep shot past Panther starting goalie Will Ernst. Rhodes answered for Middlebury, sparking a three-goal counter, including Mani Ghiasi's goal that capped the run at 7:08.
Trailing 16-4, Springfield closed out the contest by scoring the final four goals, including two man-up tallies for the 16-8 final.
Broome finished with two goals and four assists, as Rhodes netted four goals. Soroka added two assists, while Blockowicz ended the game with two goals and one helper. Nick Peterson and Tim Giarrusso each netted a pair for Middlebury.
John Jackson won 12-27 face-offs and grabbed a team-best six groundballs. Ernst (10-2) played 52:52 making nine saves against four goals, while reserve goalie Gabe Weissmann finished with four saves and four goals allowed in the final 7:08.
Sainte led Springfield with a goal and two assists, as Matt Dalton collected a game-high eight groundballs and one assist. Dean finished with two goals, while Mark Dalton won 15-27 face-offs and nabbed four rollers. Chris Santaniello (1-1) played the full game in net for the Pride, making 11 saves.
