Men's Golf Leads by Five Strokes After One Day at NESCAC Championship

Day one is complete at the 2015 NESCAC Men's Golf Championship hosted by Middlebury College at the par-71, 6,315-yard Ralph Myhre Golf Course. The host Panthers hold a five-stroke lead after 18 holes, with four of its five golfers coming in with a team total of 298. Williams is five strokes back with a 303, followed by Trinity (313) and Hamilton (320). Action concludes on Sunday with a 10:00 a.m. tee time for the first group.

Middlebury's duo of Charlie Garcia and Bennett Doherty paced the Panthers, each shooting a 74 on day one. Just one stroke behind were teammates Fitz Bowen and John Louie, who each fired 75s on the day. Eric Laorr rounded out the Panther squad with an 82.

Williams' Jake Goldenring sits in a first-place tie with the two Panthers, taking 74 strokes to complete the course. His teammates Grant Raffel and Nate McCue each shot 76 to finish in a sixth-place tie on day one. Trinity's Jeff Durkin (77) and Williams Ross Hoffman (77) rounded out the top nine.
