Box Score Second-ranked Middlebury forced 19 Bates turnovers on its way to an 18-6 win over the Bobcats (6-8, 2-7) on a windy Kohn Field. The Panthers (10-1, 6-1) have now won 10 straight-games and remain tied with Trinity atop the NESCAC standings. Middlebury returns to action on Wednesday at Hamilton, while Bates is idle for 11 days until it visits Colby on the 22nd.
Middlebury held a 3-1 lead before rattling off five-straight goals in a 2:09 span. Bridget Instrum opened the run before Alli Sciarretta won the draw and raced down field to score 10 seconds later. Mary O'Connell scored cutting to the goal at 15:37, while Bea Eppler cashed in on a rebound following a free position shot just 24 seconds later to make it a 7-1 contest.
The run continued with four more goals, two from O'Connell before Bates' Emma Noto put the Bobcats on the board by converting a free position shot with 50 seconds remaining in the first half. Hailey Cosseboom converted a feed from Katie Ritter with a nice spin move with :07 left to give the Panthers a 12-2 lead at the intermission.
O'Connell started the second half with two more tallies, giving her a career-high six in the game.Ritter scored with a nice feed from Eppler before Instrum netted her second of the game to put the Panthers on top 16-2 with 20:23 left to play.
Laurel Pascal aided O'Connell's effort with three goals on the day, while Ritter finished with two goals and a career-best five assists. Instrum and Cosseboom each scored twice in the game, while Ritter earned a game-high five draw controls. Madeleine Kinker made three saves in 46 minutes to earn the win, while Alex Freedman played the final 14 minutes.
Four different players scored for Bates in the game, as Camille Belletete earned a goal and four ground balls. Hannah Jeffrey made four saves in 40 minutes, while Jill Conway made one stop in 20 minutes of action.
