Box Score The fourth-ranked Middlebury women's lacrosse team (5-1) had little trouble with Roanoke on Monday, topping the Maroons (0-2) 19-4 in Kerr Stadium. The Panthers return to action on Wednesday with another game on their spring break, this one at W&L.
Middlebury's Chrissy Ritter scored two of the Panthers' first three goals of the game, as the team got out to a 3-0 start. Roanoke's first goal came at the 20:44 mark, as Julia Galanto tallied an unassisted goal, pulling the Maroons back within two, 3-1. After Galanto's goal, Middlebury went on a 6-0 run, which saw goals from five different players, including two from Bridget Instrum, her second and third of the game. Roanoke scored back to back goals in under a minute-and-a-half, with the first coming off of a Darragh Evarts free position shot at 14:37.
At the 13:18 mark, Claire Feeney received a pass from Evarts and slipped the ball into the back of the net, getting the Maroons back within six, 9-3. However, the Panthers closed the final 10 minutes of the half on a 7-0 run, with two goals coming from Georgia Carroll. At the end of the first 30 minutes, Roanoke trailed 16-3.
Middlebury scored three goals in the second half, one each from Instrum, Carroll and Hailey Cosseboom, her second of the game. Evarts scored her second goal with 5:52 to play, netting the goal off another free position shot. Evarts' goal would prove to be the final goal of the game, as Middlebury cruised to the win.
The Panthers were led in scoring by Instrum, who put away four goals. Nine different players scored for the Panthers, as Carroll finished with three goals and five other players tallied two goals apiece. Katie Ritter was the ground ball leader with four, while Laurel Pascal and Catherine Fowler led in draw controls with four apiece.
Madeleine Kinker earned the win in goal for Middlebury, playing the first half and tallying five saves. Katie Mandigo (1 save) and Alex Freedman both saw second-half action.
Evarts led the Maroons in scoring with two goals, while Feeney and Galanto each finished the contest with one goal apiece. Lauren Curtin played the first 45 minutes between the pipes, tallying four saves.
Roanoke was outshot by Middlebury 26-14, while the Panthers also led in ground balls 24-12.
