Box Score 2 The Panther baseball team returned to action on Sunday afternoon with two more games in Arizona. Middlebury opened the day with a 13-1 loss to Carthage (7-1), before falling by a score of 10-1 to Valley City State (16-13) in game two of the day. The Panthers return to action on Monday with a single game against Oberlin.
Carthage led 5-0 before opening the game up with three runs in the top of the sixth. Middlebury scored its lone run in the sixth with a homer to left by Dylan Sinnickson. Carthage tacked on five more runs in the seventh for the 13-1 win.
Four other Panthers had singles in the game. Cooper Byrne suffered the loss with 5.1 innings of work.
Valley City State came out of the gate strong in its 29th game of the season. Middlebury trailed 10-1 after three innings, scoring its only run in the bottom of the first. Sinnickson tripled to right and scored on a ground out by Max Araya.
Brendan Donohue went 2-3 in the game, while Drew Coash had a double. Jake Stalcup took the loss, going the first two innings of the game. Joe MacDonald tossed five innings of relief, allowing just two earned runs.
