Women's Squash Advances to NESCAC Semifinals Before Falling to Williams

The 13th-ranked Panther women's squash team advanced into the semifinal round of the NESCAC Tournament Saturday hosted by Williams before falling to the second-seeded and 12th-ranked Ephs by a score of 6-3. Middlebury earned a bye through the first round, and posted a 9-0 victory over sixth-seeded and 18th-ranked Hamilton in the quarterfinal round. The Panthers (14-6) return to play on Sunday at 9:00 a.m. in the third-place match against the #4 seed and 18th-ranked Bobcats of Bates.

Middlebury won six of its nine matches against Hamilton in three sets. Straight-set victories came from 3-7 spots consisting of Charlotte Dewey, Tiffany Hau, Liddy Renner, Zoe Carey and Lucy Bostwick. Lily Bogle also recorded a three-set win in the #9 slot for the Panthers. The remaining wins were tallied in four sets by Saskia Pownall-Gray in the top flight, Anne Wymard at #2 and Caroline Jahrling at #8.

Against the hosts, Wymard and Dewey picked up wins for the Panthers at #2 and #3 in four sets, respectively. Carey fought back from a two-set deficit at #6 for a thrilling 3-2 win.
