Middlebury landed four players in double figures led by Matt St. Amour with 18 points, but fell to Colby on Friday by an 84-80 score in a tightly-contested game. The Panthers (15-5, 3-4) return to the court Sunday with a 1:00 p.m. game at Bowdoin.

Colby's Ryan Jann scored 19 of his game-high 26 points in the opening half, while Luke Westman pulled down 11 rebounds.

Colby's (13-9, 4-4) Sam Willson added 19 points on 7-14 shooting, while Westman had 16 points and five assists to go with his game-high 11 boards. John Gallego and Connor O'Neil also each had nine points.

Jake Brown added 13 points, seven assists, and four steals, while Hunter Merryman, Dylan Sinnickson and Matt Daley each added 11 for the Panthers. Daley also grabbed a team-best nine boards.

Jann was 7-11 from the field and had three assists in the opening half as the Mules headed into the halftime break up by eight (48-40).

Middlebury never held the lead in the second half, but managed to tie the game at 79-79 with 56 seconds to play on an old-fashioned three-point play from Dean Brierley. Westman put the Mules ahead by a pair (81-79) via two free throws with 44.6 seconds remaining.

St. Amour made 1-2 from the foul line with 29.6 seconds, forcing Middlebury to foul. Gallego calmly sank two free throws with 23.1 seconds left for an 83-80 margin. After a missed layup by the Panthers, Westman hit 1-2 from the line with 11 seconds left for the final point of the contest.

Colby shot 40 percent (10-25) from 3-point range, while the Panthers shot 20 percent (3-15) for the contest.
