Fueled by a pair of school-record performances from Stephan Koenigsberger and Michael McGean on Saturday evening, Middlebury remains in seventh place following the second day serving as the hosts of the 2015 NESCAC Men's Swimming & Diving Championship. Williams continues to lead the way (1,461.5), while Amherst (1,080) and Connecticut College (1,019) sit second and third. Bates (752) and Tufts (745) are in a tight battle for the fourth and fifth spots, while Middlebury remains seventh (490).
In the night's first individual final, McGean touched the wall fourth in the 1,000 free with a school-record time of 9:32.87. His mark breaks the mark of 9:34.92 set back in 2008 by Ryan Marklewitz.
Koenigsberger's school-record swim was produced in the 100 breaststroke morning preliminaries with a time of 55.36. He finished third in the evening's championship final with a time of 56.42. His preliminary mark is an NCAA 'B' cut and erases his record time of 57.28 set during last year's conference meet at Bowdoin.
In the evening's final event, the 4x800 freestyle relay team of Paul Lagasse, Alex Smith, Connor McCormick and McGean swam to a ninth-place finish in a time of 6:59.92.
The Panthers will conclude the championship Sunday. Morning preliminaries are scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m., while the finals session will start at 5:15 p.m. with the 1,650 freestyle.
