The Panther swimming and diving teams opened up their respective 2015-16 seasons by hosting a meet with Tufts and Connecticut College. The Middlebury women were edged by the Camels (152-136) but rebounded to defeat the Jumbos (151-149), while the men were defeated by Connecticut College (152-128) and Tufts (176-112).
Isabel Wyer led the women with a pair of individual victories. She took home the 200 free (1:55.38) by nearly two seconds, as well as the 500 free (5:07.56). In the first event of the day, the quartet of Wyer, Liza MacCowatt, Megan Griffin and Morgan Burke posted a winning time of 1:49.94 in the 200 medley relay. The team of Griffin, Burke, Stephanie Andrews and Wyer swam to a runner-up finish in the 200 free relay (1:39.62), while Griffin tallied an individual second-place effort in the 100 fly (1:00.15).
On the diving board, Elissa DeNunzio tallied a pair of second-place finishes. She posted a total of 182.00 points on the 1-meter board, while scoring 208.20 points during the 3-meter competition.
For the men, Stephan Koenigsberger and Bryan Cheuk each posted individual victories. Koenigsberger touched the wall first in the 100 breaststroke (59.01), while Cheuk raced to the wall in the 50 free (22.10) just ahead of teammate Jack McLaughlin (22.24).
Other individual second-place finishes came from Connor McCormick in the 200 breaststroke (2:14.33), Paul Lagasse during the 100 free (48.80) and Michael McGean in the 1000 free (9:51.71). McGean also stopped the clock third in the 500 free (4:48.20).
In the final event, the Panther 200 free relay of Cheuk, Brendan Leech, McLaughlin and Lagasse capped the meet with a victory in a time of 1:27.24.
Will Greene claimed the 1-meter diving event with 217.28 points, while he was second in the 3-meter competition with 201.60 points.
The Panthers return to the pool on Saturday, December 5 with a road meet at Amherst.
