Now winners in seven of its last eight matches, the 13th-ranked Middlebury women's squash team recorded a pair of victories against top-20 teams. At home on Friday evening, the Panthers recorded a 6-3 victory over #15 Drexel, and eased to a 7-2 victory Saturday on the road over 17th-ranked Amherst.
Against the Dragons on Friday, the Panthers had victories in the first three matches. Charlotte Dewey at #3, Zoe Carey at #6 and Caroline Jahrling in the ninth slot were victors in straight sets. Middlebury's fourth team point came from Lucy Bostwick with a straight-set win at #8. Looking for the match-clinching point, Katie Dewey had a marathon first set (19-17) before eventually winning in three at #7. The Panthers sixth point came from Liddy Renner, who trailed two sets to one but battled back for a five-set victory.
On Saturday, Charlotte Dewey, Tiffany Hau and Bostwick picked up straight-set wins at #3, #4 and #8, while Carey and Jahrling posted 3-1 wins at #6 and #9. The Panthers other wins were five-set triumphs by Anne Wymard and Renner in the second and fifth slots.
The Panthers return to the court Friday through Sunday when they take part in the NESCAC Championship hosted by Williams.
