The Middlebury swimming and diving teams hosted the two-day Middlebury Invitational on Friday and Saturday inside the natatorium. The event featured no team scores as Williams, Springfield, Tufts and the University of Vermont also took part in the meet.
During the women's competition, the 19th-ranked Panthers picked up wins from both the 200 and 400 free relay teams. The 200 team of Jamie Hillas, Lydia Carpenter, Ann Carpenter and Courtney Haron finished with a time of 1:38.98. The 400 quartet of Hillas, Morgan Burke, Ann Carpenter and Haron touched the wall first in 3:34.74, winning by more than 2.3 seconds.
Individually, Hillas recorded a pair of victories in the 200 individual medley (2:07.21) and the 100 fly (56.60). Kimberly Roos won the 1000 free (10:52.25), while Claire Treesh logged the only sub-minute time while winning the 100 back in 59.97. Another victory came from Madeline Pierce, who claimed the 200 back in a time of 2:09.28. Megan Griffin was the runner up in both the 50 free (24.58) and 100 fly (57.61), while Margaret Pollack touched the wall second in the 200 fly (2:11.42).
Lucy Scott swam the second-fastest time in the 1650 free (18:07.95), while Stephanie Andrews was second in the 100 free (53.98) and 200 free (1:57.64). Jennifer Koide finished as the runner up in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.63), while Caroline Kelly finished second behind Pierce in the 200 back (2:11.29) as numerous other top-three finishes were tallied.
On the men's side, the 200 medley relay team of Nicholas Cogswell, David Hogan, Teddy Kuo and Nathaniel Smith touched the wall second in 1:39.17. The 800 free quartet of Paul Lagasse, Connor McCormick, Andrew Grant and Kuo collected a runner-up finish in a time of 7:14.55. The squad of Lagasse, Bryan Cheuk, Noel Antonisse and Taylor Moore got to the wall third in the 200 free (1:27.43), while the 400 medley relay comprising of Justin Cho, Stefan Pla, Alex Smith and Stephan Koenigsberger were third (3:38.06).
Individually, Michael McGean won the 1000 free (9:35.08), just ahead of Matthew Lantin who had a second-place time of 9:38.18. Additional top-three efforts came from Koenigsberger in the 50 free (2nd, 21.65) and the 100 fly (2nd, 51.79), McCormick in the 200 breaststroke (2nd, 2:12.17), Lantin competing in the 200 free (3rd, 1:46.92) and 500 free (3rd, 4:43.51) and Hogan swimming the 100 breaststroke (T-3rd, 1:00.97).
On the diving board, Dylan Peters was third in the 1-meter (408.83) and 3-meter (384.15) events.
The Panthers will have a couple weeks off from competition before hitting the pool for the NESCAC Championships. The women's meet will be held on February 13-15 at Wesleyan, while Middlebury will play host to the men's championship from February 20-22.
