The Middlebury men's golf team opened the fall season with a win during the 2014 Bowdoin Invitational Tournament at the 6,601-yard par 72 Brunswick Golf Club. The Panthers came in with a two-day total of 601, firing an impressive 299 during Sunday's action, the only team to break the 300 mark. Endicott (606), Providence (606), Bates (635) and St. Anselm (645) rounded out the top five at the 12-team tournament.
Charlie Garcia paced the individual efforts for the Panthers with a 146, including a 72 on Sunday to finish in third place. Eric Laorr also earned a top-five finish with a 73 on Sunday for a two-day total of 149 to place fifth, while Fitz Bowen was right behind him in sixth (76-73). Chris Atwood finished in 12th place with a 154 (75-79), while John Louie rounded out Middlebury's scorers in a tie for 20th posting a final score of 159 (77-82).
The Panthers return to the links next weekend when they play host the annual Duke Nelson Invitational. The two-day event will take place Saturday-Sunday, September 13-14 at the Ralph Myhre Golf Course.
