Middlebury improved three spots during the second and final day, finishing fourth among 19 teams competing at the two-day Williams Invitational. Rensselaer won the event with a combined score of 598, while the Panthers were one of three teams on day two to shoot under 300 in Sunday's round with a 299 for a total of 604. The event took place at the par-71 Taconic Golf Club.
Leading the way for the Panthers, who took a combined six strokes off their day one score, was Eric Laorr, as all five Panthers tallied scores in the 70s. Laorr fired a 5-over score of 147 (73-74) to finish in a tie for fourth, while Rodrigo Andrade was right behind with a 149 (74-75), tying for seventh.
Charlie Garcia finished in a tie for 23rd with a 153 (77-76), while John Louie matched Laorr's low round on day two with a 74. He posted a two-day total of 155 (81-74), finishing in a tie for 33rd. Chris Atwood rounded out the scoring in a tie for 52nd with a 160 (81-79).
The men will take to the course next weekend as they take part in the NESCAC Qualifier hosted by Hamilton. The two-day event will take place at the Skenandoa Golf Club next Saturday and Sunday.
