The Middlebury College men's golf team sits in a seventh-place tie among 41 teams at the 2014 NCAA Championships. Schreiner University leads the event with a 285, followed by Methodist (286) and the Panthers with a 294. Today's action took place at the Grandover Resort, in Greensboro, North Carolina as the Panthers tackled the west course. Action continues on Wednesday with 18 more holes as Middlebury attempts to make the cut, playing on the east course beginning at 8:15 a.m.
Eric Laorr paced the team on the first day of competition, shooting a two-under-par 70. He was red-hot on the front nine, earning five birdies, including four in a five-hole stretch to tie for fifth place after 18 holes.
Fitz Bowen and Charlie Garcia each shot a 74 to tie for 47th place. Garcia had a birdie on the front nine, while shooting an even 36 on the back. Bowen earned a pair of birdies on the front and two more on the back, but struggled on holes 5-8, going six over.
Rob Donahoe came in with a 76, including a pair of birdies on the back nine, while John Louie shot an 80.
