Pincus Breaks School Record, Track & Field Teams Open Spring in California

Lauren Pincus broke a 13-year old school record in the javelin as the Middlebury track and field teams opened up their spring seasons at the Ross & Sharon Irwin Meet. The meet was hosted by Point Loma Nazarene University in California. The Panthers return to action next Saturday at the same school, and will compete in the PLNU Invitational.

Pincus tossed the javelin a distance of 140'9” and finished second in the event. Pincus' mark broke the school record of 139'11” set by Elissa Burnell back in 2001.

Wilder Schaaf picked up an event victory during men's action in the 1500-meter run with a time of 3:54.78. Kevin Wood finished third in the 5000-meter run, crossing the line 15:15.05. Kevin Chu finished in fourth in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.48, while Jake Wood was third in the 400-meter hurdles in 55.87.

In addition to Pincus' school record, other top-five women's finishes came from the trio of Erzie Nagy, Alison Maxwell and Summer Spillane in the 1500m run. Nagy finished second (4:37.48), while Maxwell (4:42.01) and Spillane (4:43.73) were right behind her in third and fourth. Kathleen Rominger was second in the 5000m run (18:00.98), while Lotie Hedden (18:06.53) and Katherine Tercek (18:08.28) stopped the clock in fourth and fifth. Hannah Blackburn leapt to a fourth-place finish in the triple jump (35'4”).
