Women's 200 Medley Relay Performances Highlight Day One of NCAA Meet

The Middlebury women's 200 medley relay earned All-American honors with a sixth-place finish, and lowered its school record in the morning during action Wednesday of the 2014 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships. The four-day event is co-hosted by Franklin College and the Indiana Sports Corporation in the IU Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI.

With the 26 points garnered via the sixth-place finish in the event, the Panther women sit seventh following the first day.

The team of Andrea Tibbetts, Jamie Hillas, Megan Griffin and Morgan Burke touched the wall in a time of 1:44.43 for first-team All-American laurels. In the morning preliminaries, the quartet posted a mark of 1:44.17, and broke its own school record established last month during the NESCAC Championship meet.

In men's competition, Ian Mackay, the program's school-record holder and NESCAC champion in the 50 freestyle, posted a morning preliminary time of 20.54. During the consolation final in which all eight participants garner honorable mention All-American status, he finished third by stopping the clock in 20.58.

The second day of competition is scheduled to begin Thursday with preliminaries at 10:00 a.m., while the finals are slated for 6:00 p.m.
