Middlebury, playing its first game at Peter Kohn Field in 2014, lost to 20th-ranked Saint Lawrence 14-7 in a non-league contest. The Panthers (1-4) have already played a rigorous early schedule, matching up against their third top-20 team in five outings. The game was moved from Youngman Field at Alumni Stadium to Peter Kohn Field due to recent snow accumulation at the stadium.
Trailing 3-1 in the first quarter, Middlebury's Stephen Seymour answered a man-up Saints tally with his own at 4:51 off a nice crease feed from Jon Broome. Saint Lawrence (3-1) answered with its own man-up tally on a high-to-high shot by Jeremy Vautour to close out the first with a 4-2 lead.
In the second, Middlebury used a man-advantage, scoring 13 seconds into the frame when Jack Rautiola ripped a low-to-high shot, making it a one-goal game at 4-3. The Saints added two goals for a 6-3 lead before Rautiola struck again, netting his second of the game at 10:28. The teams exchanged goals before the Saints added the final two of the half, including a two-man advantage goal by Vautour.
Saint Lawrence scored the only two goals of the third, taking an 11-5 lead into the fourth quarter. Middlebury's Chris Peterson netted the opening goal of the fourth at 14:30. The home-field momentum was quashed as Conor Healey grabbed the groundball off the ensuing face-off and scored a man-down tally for the Saints 14 seconds after Peterson's goal.
Leading 12-6, the teams again exchanged goals as Healey netted his fourth of the game. The Saints capped the scoring on a Marc Perroni man-up goal with 2:19 left, setting the final score at 14-7.
Healey finished with four goals and an assist for the Saints, while Vautour scored a pair and helped out on two more. Nick Ford earned the win, making eight saves. Ryan Brigham collected a game-high six groundballs, winning 9-12 face-offs, while teammate Jake Davis won 8-11 match-ups from the X.
Rautiola netted two goals for Middlebury, as Broome added a goal and two assists. Nate Gaudio made 15 saves and took the loss, as the Panthers were out-shot 45-24 on the day.
