The Middlebury men's hockey team picked up a point on the road Sunday afternoon, battling Colby to a 2-2 tie. Both teams see their records move to 0-1-1 overall and in NESCAC play. The Panthers return to action next weekend when they host Tufts on Friday and Connecticut College on Saturday inside Kenyon Arena.

Middlebury scored the lone goal of the opening period when Vincent Gisonti stuffed a shot inside the left post. Mike Najjar had the assist on the play at 14:29.

The Panthers went up 2-0 at 12:54 of the second period when Jake Charles scored his first of the season from Ronald Fishman. 

The Mules made it a 2-1 game after two periods when EJ Rauseo cut the lead in half on a pass from Mario Benicky, who has two assists in two games.

After taking a pass from Devin Albert, Rauseo crashed hard toward the goal from the left side. The puck ended up with Benicky on the right side of the post to tie the game at 2-2 just 7:07 into the third.

A minute later, the Panthers had a great opportunity to go on top, but could not take advantage of a five-minute major power play.

Both teams came into the overtime period looking for a victory. Middlebury goaltender Liam Moorfield-Yee had to stop six of his 26 saves in the extra session. Colby goalie Emerson Verrier made three saves, including a breakaway stop when three Middlebury players came in on goal from mid-ice with Colby defenders chasing. Verrier had 15 of his 31 saves in the first period.

Middlebury held a 33-28 shots advantage for the game.
