Box Score The Middlebury field hockey team concluded its regular season with a 6-0 win over Wesleyan (3-11, 2-7) on Kohn Field. The third-ranked Panthers (14-1, 9-1) will either finish first or second in the NESCAC, needing a Bowdoin loss to Tufts on Wednesday to clinch the top seed. The Cardinals conclude their regular season when they host Connecticut College on Wednesday.
Bridget Instrum earned a hat-trick in an 11:21 span, while Catherine Fowler scored two goals to lead Middlebury to the win. Fowler opened the scoring 6:34 into the contest, finding the top left corner of the goal on a penalty stroke. She netted her team-leading 14th of the season at 11:28, tapping in a nice pass from close range on a feed from Anne Entwisle.
Instrum earned the first of her three goals 47:48 into the contest, scoring after a scramble in the goal-mouth area. Her second goal came on a feed from Anna Kenyon, while the hat-trick was earned at the 59:09 mark.
Hollis Perticone finished off the scoring with 35 seconds remaining, converting a pass from Catherine Fowler to make it a 6-0 final.
Middlebury held a 29-6 shots advantage in the game, leading 8-2 in penalty corners. Emily Knapp made four saves in goal to earn her fourth shutout of the season. Sara Grundy (13 saves) played 59 minutes, while Sarah Prickett saw the final 11 minutes of action for the Cardinals.
