Box Score

The Middlebury men's hockey team broke a three-game skid, earning a 5-2 NESCAC road win at Colby on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers broke a 1-1 tie with three goals in the second period on their way to the win at Alfond Rink. Middlebury moves to 7-7-2 overall and 5-4-1 in conference play, while the Mules drop to 9-6-3 and 6-5-1 in the league.

Thomas Freyre made his first goal and assist of the season important ones. With Middlebury holding a 2-1 lead and the game still in doubt, Freyre had his shot from the point deflected in by Matt Silcoff for what proved to be the game-winning goal at 12:07 of the second period. Just 2:13 later, Freyre got in front of the Colby goal and deflected in a shot from Derek Pimentel (13 assists).

Colby managed to cut the margin to 4-2 when EJ Rauseo scored his fourth of the season from Devin Albert and Tyler Lingel at 14:19 of the final period. However, the Panthers closed out the game on an empty net score from Ben Wiggins with 26 seconds left.

The Mules took a 1-0 lead at 10:35 of the first period on Ray Zeek's fifth goal of the season from Matt Gelnaw and Robert McCormick. The Panthers scored just 14 seconds later when Wiggins scored his first of the game from Robbie Dobrowski.

Michael Peters made nine of his 22 saves in the opening period for Middlebury and improved his record to 4-1-2. Colby goalie Sam Parker also had 22 saves.
